5/29/22 – Honor Troops at Northwood Memorial

Honor fallen troops by lighting a remembrance candle and completing wall rubbings of names at the Northwood Gratitude and Honor Memorial at Northwood Community Park. City staff will be on-site May 29th to assist guests from 4 to 6 p.m.

5/30/22 – City of Irvine Memorial Day Ceremony

The City will host its annual Memorial Day Ceremony May 30th, 10 a.m.–12 p.m. at Colonel Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park. A Commanding Officer from Irvine’s adopted 2/11 Marine Battalion will speak and pay tribute to our military fallen.

5/31/21 – National Poppy Day

The poppy thrived in Europe After World War I. Beautiful red poppies started growing in the dirt and mud in France and Belgium. Scientists attributed the growth to the soil being supplemented with lime from the rubble left by the war. The red poppy came to symbolize the bloodshed during battle following the publication of the wartime poem “In Flanders Fields.” The poem was written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, M.D.…
